Coast Mountains

Many people make the mistake of thinking that Whistler is in the Rocky Mountains. In fact, the resort is located in the Coast Mountain range of British Columbia. Often guests don't realize that Whistler is actually in a temperate rainforest. Most rain forests throughout the world receive the majority of their precipitation in the summer months, but fortunately for snow-lovers, Whistler receives the majority of its precipitation from the months of November to March. This is why Whistler is renowned for its unbelievable powder and can easily reach upwards of 30 feet of snow per year.

What to Wear?

Throughout most of the winter, the temperatures are actually quite mild from the village base to mid mountain (see chart below). But nearer the alpine (or above tree line) the altitude and winds can create differences of up to -15 degrees from the village base. We strongly recommend that skiers/boarders wear layers of clothing in order to keep them comfortable at all mountain levels. Gore-tex and other similar materials are ideal for fighting the cold, wind, and snow. Ask us about clothing options before coming.
